PROVINCE OF MESSINA · BY THE SEA
Castelmola is a picturesque Sicilian village with authentic medieval charm.

Its origins go back to the Sicels and until 902 it remained loyal to Rome. The town was later besieged by the Saracens, the Normans, the Swabians, the Angevins, the Aragonese and the Bourbons, until it joined the Kingdom of Italy. What amazes visitors in Castelmola is the breathtaking view over the Ionian Sea and the surrounding mountains. The Norman castle, the cobbled lanes, the squares and the local traditions captivate everyone who comes here. Castelmola is also the ideal base for exploring Taormina and Isola Bella. An unmissable experience for lovers of Sicilian culture, history and landscapes.

Almond wine, home-made macaroni and “cuddure”, the Easter ring cakes.
The village’s name is said to come from the particular shape of the rock it stands on, which recalls a “mola”, a millstone.
